Preparing Your lawn for Hydro-Seeding

For best results, the new lawn area should be prepped just as if you were installing sod.

  1. If needed, add 1-2 inches of top soil to an area clear of weeds and rocks.
  2. Fill in low spots and grade to approximate level.
  3. Rough spade or rototill the area to be planted.
  4. Rake, roll and level until the surface is smooth.
  5. Mountain soils, decomposed granite, etc. offer greater challenges for plant root development. Soil amendments greatly increase success, although it is not absolutely necessary. We will be happy to make a recommendation.
