What is Hydro-Seeding?

It is a relatively new process where seeds, water, fertilizer, wood fiber mulch and a holding agent are mixed together and applied over the ground. The soft, green mat that covers your lawn is a wood cellulose fiber that performs the following functions:

  • Water Rentention- Because the wood fibers can retain up to 10 times their weight in water, the seeds are kept moist and results are thicker and quicker.
  • Soil Retention- The wood fibers mulch and holding agent (called tackifier) also help prevent wind and water erosion. The seeds stay put!
  • Protection- The wood fibers protect young seeds from the scorching sun and helps to maintain optimum soil temperature. It forms an almost perfect micro-climate for the new seeds to quickly germinate and grow.
