As Phase II of the Environmental Protection Agency's Policy is beginning
to kick in and be policed across the country, erosion control is getting
higher and higher on all development contractors' lists.
Hydro-seeding is widely recognized as a viable erosion control method.
High Prairie Hydro-Seed, Inc. offers both traditional hydro-seeding
and new "BFM" application options. Traditional hydroseeding
is a cost efficient option for most standard erosion control and reclamation
projects. However, for more challenging environments, like steep slopes,
BFM (bonded fiber matrix) mulch offers the same type of erosion control
protection as a blanket, with the convenience and cost savings of hydroseeding.
BFMs act like traditional wood cellulose mulch
by helping to establish vegetation and promote growth, but BFM are a
more specialized type of mulch which have a chemistry that makes them
not dissolve in water. BFM has a chemical makeup that allows it to actually
bind with the underlying soil while still allowing water to seep through
for the seeds. Once it cures, the integrated binding agent in BFMs acts
very much like a blanket and provides immediate protection to the seeds
from erosion. The ability to simply spray apply the BFM provide several
advantages:
